Improved Food and Nutrition Security and Health of Women and Children in the Backward Districts of Jharkhand
The focus is on identifying malnourished children, promoting nutrition garden, organizing nutrition camps, promoting nutrition sensitive integrated farming, promoting WASH in the community through LANN and realizing government schemes / entitlements, in their household specifically and community in general. The project supported by WHH is implemented in 40 villages in Ghatshila block in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.
Safe Food Program
Sustainable Food System is a platform for bringing in smallholder producers, retailers and consumers together so that everybody involved in the flow of food, understands each other’s need and support each other through a common Brand – Bhoomi Ka. It helps smallholder farmers to farm ecologically, get a PGS certificate, take the surplus to a retail chain and create a market for them by sensitizing consumers and increasing awareness of ‘Clean, Green and Fair’. The initiative is supported by Welthungerhilfe. The platform also provides information, organizes fairs, exhibitions, workshops and awareness sessions for schools, colleges and the general public, on issues like clean, green and fair food habits, sustainable living, urban gardening and cooking. Efforts are made to revive traditional food & indigenous food of Jharkhand, though our Bhoomi ka safe food entrepreneurs and a youtube channel Bhoomi ka Cusine.
Child Development Program
The focus is on Improving nutritional status and reproductive health of adolescents’ girls and provide safe and sustainable livelihood opportunities to the youth. One of the objectives is also to provide children in the age groups of 6 to 14 years (including the most vulnerable children), a protective and enabling environment, free from abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence in target villages/communities. The project is implemented in total of 74 villages in three districts of Jamtara (21 villages), Giridih (30 villages) and West Singbhum (24 villages) in Jharkhand.
Sustainable Agriculture and Nutritional Security
The objective is to improve nutritional status of tribal women, adolescent girls and children and contribute to income enhancement through promotion of sustainable and climate smart agriculture and entitlement realization. CWS works in 2 villages of Ghatshila block of East Singhbhum district through it partner Adarsh Seva Sansthan and 8 villages in Giridih and 2 villages in Jamua block of Giridih district through its partner Jago Foundation.
Social and Legal Empowerment of Sabar Communities
The objective is to mainstream the children of Sabar, a PvTG community through improved education, nutrition and hygiene. CWS works through it partner YUVA in 4 villages of Potka and Dumaria block of East Singhbhum district.
Improving Sustainable Livelihood of the Marginalized Communities
The focus is on a holistic approach that involves capacity building of farmers on SIFS modelling and farm planning, input support to identified farmers and women, youth entrepreneurs, village community score card exercises, financial literacy workshops and handholding support for credit linkages, promotion of business development plan for identified farmers, women and members of vulnerable families, nutrition/ kitchen garden for identified families and mass educational activities. The project covers 2100 households in 10 villages of Namkum block (Ranchi district), 10 villages of Bagodar Block (Giridih district) 10 villages of Manika block (Latehar district), 10 villages of Jarmundi block (Dumka districts)and 10 villages of Chandankyari block (Bokaro district). CWS implements the project through its partners Association for Social and Human Awareness (ASHA), Ranchi, Banvasi Vikas Ashram (BVA), Giridih, Bihar Pradesh Yuva Parishad (BPYP), Daltongang, Fontal Development Foundation (FDF), Deoghar and Samaj Pragati Sansthan (SPS), Giridih. The project is supported by Bread for the World and ASW, Germany.
