Eco-sustainable livelihoods

Promotion of diversified livelihood options

Diverse farm based (FPO related- Value addition/food processing, crop diversity, livestock development, mushroom), off-farm based (tailoring, embroidery, vocational businesses) and forest-based livelihoods are promoted among the households to improve their annual household incomes (Training and value addition and market access for forest-based products (Minor Forest Produce) such as Honey,Hill broom making, leaf-plate making, tamarind cake making and utilization of existing land resources of Adivasi farmers through diversified crop cultivation, processing and marketing of agro-products (millets).

Climate resilient farming:

Farmers are encouraged to adopt Sustainable Integrated Farming System, which is seen as an ecological approach that maximizes farm production within the available resources in the most sustainable manner. It is an improved version of mixed cropping, which tries to imitate nature’s principles, where not only crops but varied types of plants, trees, animals, bird, fish and other aquatic flora and fauna are utilized for production. These sub-systems are combined in such a way that waste of one sub-system is recycled as resource for the other. Examples, paddy along with pond-based duck cum fish systems, vermicompost beds, growing Azolla

Indigenous crop varieties that are tolerant to climate stresses (temperatures, dry spells) are promoted among the farmers especially in the context of paddy, millets etc.

Natural farming: Farmers are encouraged to cultivate millets, pulses, vegetables and fruits using non-chemical cultivation methods.
