Centre for World Solidarity (CWS), registered as a Trust in 1992, is a Not-for-Profit Organisation (NPO) that draws its intent, inspiration, and direction from the Gandhian ideology of small and self-reliant communities. CWS is actively engaged in addressing issues related to human well-being, livelihoods, and local governance, with a particular focus on helping the underprivileged and marginalized sections, especially women, Dalits, and Adivasis. The organizationâs founding leaders, Late Shri V. Krishnamoorthy and Shri M.V. Sastri, led CWS with a commitment to these values. While CWS was formally registered as a Trust under the Indian Trust Act in 1992, its roots can be traced back to Berlin-based Action for World Solidarity (ASW), which had over three decades of experience in India as a small resource agency assisting development work. CWS has made significant progress in collaboration with other Voluntary Organisations, governmental agencies, academic/research institutions, and as a direct implementer, in addressing issues of human well-being, livelihoods, and local governance. The organizationâs work spans across several states, focusing on the upliftment of marginalized communities. The Central Office is located in Hyderabad, and CWS implements projects in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharastra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana.
To promote a gendered and eco-sustainable approach that will advance people centered governance, livelihoods and management of natural resources.
The vision of CWS is the emergence of an equitable society of small communities, where all those deprived of basic human rights, especially women, dalits, adivasis and minorities, live with dignity; a society that is vibrant with the consciousness of both rights and duties, free from violence and committed to eco-friendly development.
CWS is governed by a Board of Trustees, led by the Managing Trustee and comprising members from all operational states. The Board meets twice a year to review project progress and approve new initiatives. The Executive Director, serving as the ex officio Secretary to the Board, acts as the key link between the Board and staff. The Finance and Personnel Committee (FPC) supports the Board by reviewing financial and HR-related matters and recommending changes for final approval. Operational execution is handled by the Director Program, Finance Director, and State Program Specialists. A Senior Management Team (SMT), consisting of senior staff, oversees project progress, fund management, and day-to-day operations. SMT members are also connected to project leaders and field staff, including Community Mobilisers and Field Extension Workers.
CWS relies on its donor partners to build equal contribution to international development efforts. Every contribution helps. CWS is a donor mechanism of like-minded partners who work together to share expertise, coordinate actions, and raise the profile of disability across a broader range of organisations.
